A major
character designer in the world of
anime, Haruhiko Mikimoto is probably best known for his Macross (Robotech) designs. He did character designs for all the
Macross anime aside from
Macross Plus, and is also
famous for his
Gunbuster designs. It seems likely that him and
Shoji Kawamori get along well.
His style is not hard to recognize, it has a certain classic, soft look to it that contrasts with the hard edges of many more modern anime. It's very easy on the eye and generally pleasant, while still managing not to look out of place in the sci-fi anime he often works in; quite a trick, to be sure.
