Metallic Line Test, the End to End Ping sends a
segment of
data from the
central office to the individual's
premise equipment, and awaits a
response, thus proving that the
equipment is in fact functional.
When
failed, it is commonly
believed that there is either a
problem with the parties
equipment or
inside wiring.
Failure messages include
Hard Ground,
Ring Tip Short, and
No Response From Host.
