Bufotenine, a lethally toxic, LSD-like hallucinogen, can be found in the venom of the Bufo marinus and Bufo alvarius (a.k.a. desert toad, cane toad, Colorado River toad). Smoking the crystalline residue that remains after drying out the toad's milky, mucous-like secretion can apparently get you really high. Confused persons occasionally take to licking the toads in search of this killer buzz. Possession of bufotenine is a felony in the United States.
