The salchow was developed by and named for the Swedish champion, Ulrich Salchow, the jump involves one or more complete mid-air turns from a back inside edge of one skate to the back outside edge of the other skate.
The skater does a outside three-turn.
On this outside edge, the skater lifts off from the skating knee and swings around backwards with the free leg, which has been held in a hard check behind the skater.
The skater turns once (for a single) in the air in a loop position, with the skating leg crossed over the free leg. The skater lands on the toe pick of the free leg and checks out.
