1882-1971 Russian composer
He conceived of totally original and exciting music in many forms.
In 1913 his The Rite of Spring (or "Le Sacre du printemps") provoked a minor riot. Fistfights literally erupted between those who loved it and those who hated it. It is now considered a classic. For one small section of the work, he invented a new time signature called 11/4.

His music exhibits a love of orchestral color that seems like a combination of Claude Debussy, Aleksandr Skryabin and Richard Wagner. See Aaron Copland and Edgar Varese. Frank Zappa greatly admired his music.
