To the editors:
I note with interest your website
and your desire for me to submit
Register, give feedback.
I note too the manifesto
'Drink tea, invigorate poetry scene'
With the cute little line drawing
of a teapot beneath.
I will not submit,
but allow me to register this:
I will not drink your fucking tea.
I will spit the blue flame and hurl my glass against the wall,
and the difference between you and me
will be as clear as the words I scrawl.
The poems I will write are not so twee,
for I have more sinister desires
And my words will wail like a banshee
My poems will start fires.
Not the quiet sort that burn in the heart,
the sort that kill like a blood clot
Till I'm tearing buildings apart
And you're putting out flames with a teapot.
'We like: fresh, strong, great'
I write: harsh, rough, true,
Fresh and strong are bold words for poems sedate.
I craft words that will work
and not win me awards
to mention with a smirk
as if poems were trophies, not swords.
I will write poems of sweat,
poems of bucking hips and sticky lips
poems of hate and regret
poems with blood welling up in the tips
Poems you won't print with ironic quips.
Therefore, I cordially extend to you the following invitation:
