Happy zeroeth birthday, Luke Joseph M.-, 7 lb. 2 oz., my newest nephew! He shows promise to be a good kid already: my sister's labor was only 4 hours.
Messed around some with the Debian box, trying out gnome-napster
(not impressed) and a few different cd-writing utils. I'll have to look into it, but everything seems to expect SCSI, and my drives are EIDE/ATAPI. Got an e-mail inquiry regarding the availability of my domain (mindfire.net) for sale, and replied with a gentle prompt for an opening bid
April Trolls Day:
I hung around 'til ~3AM waiting to see how it all sorted out. The selectivity of the "hacks" seemed unlikely to me. I figured any h4x0R3r
capable of affecting gods' access to powers - and the very nature of those powers, like changing "kill" to "c!" - wouldn't stop there, and wouldn't bother with trolling - some of which was in shamefully poor taste
. Moreover, I trust the owners to maintain tighter security and disaster planning than that. From what I understand, one intent was to show what E2 would be like without editorial moderation
. This brings up a suggestion I made by e-mail to a high-up, and posted to the suggestions node, long ago: develop an IRC-like "ignore
" capability. I originally proposed this because I have painful personal issues
with certain users, but it also directly addresses trolling and puts more power to avoid offensive material into the hands of the individual user.
I had the good fortune
to talk religion with a fellow noder, my second phone introduction to an E2 user this year. Hope you enjoyed church, chiquita
! =) The fellow who wants mindfire.net replied with an acceptable offer - enough to wipe out my current debt. Installed Google toolbar
on the Win98 box, I'm very pleased with both of them. Managed to spill root beer
on some freshly-laundered laundry as I was lugging it from the car into the house. Grr.
