Predictably, I get questions
like this all the time.
After I slap them until they change the word "Cult" to "Religious", I offer them the following advice:
- Start your own tech company, dammit! Our web design startup attracted all kinds of fringe elements, and if you think castration, shaved heads, and mass suicide are bad, you should see what Larry Ellison and Steve Jobs do to their people. It's only a matter of time before shrines to Sensei Gates start appearing in the candlelit breakrooms of Tokyo skyscrapers. Do you honestly think there is any limit to what the open source community would do for Linus Torvalds? Hell, my company's crummy HTML could have been written by a dog, and I still got the desired theological results.
- And never forget the booze. It worked for Jesus, it worked for me, and it'll work for you. The types of lonely, depressed people you'll attract are likely to be already more than familiar with their good friend Mr. Bottle.
