Have you ever thought about retirement
Or are you too busy picking out the dirt from underneath your fingernails
Where does our collective conscious go to daydream
If it was hung and nailed to an office chair thirty two fiscal quarters ago
There have been rumors that the employee of the month really doesn't give a shit anymore
They laid him off a year ago with a happy meal severance package
And his friends and family are beginning to wonder if he's really been looking for a job at all
They say he hasn't been taking his pills
They say he wanders away for weeks at a time with no phone, no wallet, no keys
That he's organizing an underground revolution through the whispers of the homeless
What do normal people think about sitting in traffic lots
Do the commercials on the radio drown out the depression
So that their thoughts become linear transmissions
Did anyone tell them it's okay to wallow in self hatred
Because it's the one of the greatest ways to start a change
Our disease isn't consumerism or a mail in rebate
But the apathy and tolerance of becoming ignorant and static everyday
The golden age does not start with tossing out the crooks on wall street
But with imagination |
