An anime series based on the Kirby games made by Nintendo. The cartoon first premiered in Japan in October 2001, as "Hoshi no Kaabii" (translation: 'Kirby's Star', equivalent to 'Kirby's Dream Land'). The show was later translated by 4Kids Entertainment (the same company that translates Pokemon and countless other dubbed anime) and premiered on Fox Box, Fox's showcase of 4Kids translations, on September 14, 2002. The show mixes regular animation with computer animation, so sometimes you might see Kirby, Dedede, or Escargoon (and sometimes Tiff and Tuff and other characters) in full 3D. As far as I'm concerned, this is the only Fox Box show worth watching.

Here are the English lyrics, sung to a jazzy tune.

Kirby Kirby Kirby, that's the name you should know
Kirby Kirby Kirby, he's the star of the show
He's more than you think, he's got maximum pink
Kirby Kirby Kirby's the one

He comes right
Back at ya
He comes right
Back at ya
Give it all that you've got, take your very best shot
He'll send it right back at ya for sure, yeah

NME Sales Guy: How can I help you, King Dedede?
King Dedede: I need a monster to clobber that there Kirby!
NME Sales Guy: That's what we do best at NME!
Escargoon: You'd better get it with a money-back guarantee!

Kirby Kirby Kirby, savin' the day
Kirby Kirby Kirby, he's here to stay
Don't be fooled by his size, you won't believe your eyes
Kirby (Kirby)

Kirby (Kirby) Kirby Kirby Kirby's the one
Right back at ya, yeah

Characters

KIRBY
Kirby, the small pink puffball, is actually a baby star warrior. He was, in fact, not originally intended to awaken for at least 200 years. But he was awoken when his starship detected a monster on Popstar, and crash landed there. Being a baby, he doesn't really talk, but he sounds exactly like he did in Super Smash Bros. Melee. All he can really say is his name (on a few occasions), and more commonly, a squeal that sounds like "Baiyo!" Kirby's greatest power is to suck up objects to gain their power. Kirby does this by inhaling, which creates a huge wind of suction that pulls in anything of reasonable size into his mouth. For example, if Kirby inhaled an enemy's sword, he would become Sword Kirby, a skilled sword fighter, and inhaling a flaming object would turn him into Fire Kirby. There are all kinds of powers that Kirby can gain through sucking up certain objects. Kirby's power originates from the Warp Star, a small star that Kirby can also use to fly around. Kirby lives in a small dome-shaped house under a tree just outside Cappy Town, with a small but stubborn bird named Tokkori.

KING DEDEDE
Self-proclaimed ruler of Dream Land, King Dedede is a big blue penguin-like guy who appears to be much bigger than he was in the original Kirby games. Dedede buys monsters from the internet-based company NightMare Enterprises, including the octopus monster that alerted Kirby and sent him to Popstar, Dream Land's planet. Kirby defeated the octopus, and Dedede has been sending ordered monsters after him ever since. Not really the best king, he acts more like a pompous dictator. Dedede's servant/sidekick is a wisecracking snail called Escargoon, whom Dedede usually pounds on the head to relieve stress or whenever he feels like it. Dedede also has his own TV station (well, the only TV station in Dream Land) called Channel DDD. Just about all the shows on Channel DDD are Dedede-oriented, including "Kirby and the King", in which Dedede plays ventriloquist to a Kirby dummy which he uses to make Kirby look silly and dumb to the citizens of Dream Land (even though, being a baby, the real Kirby thinks it's funny).

TIFF and TUFF
Daughter and son of Sir Ebrum and Lady Like, who have been on Kirby's side ever since Kirby saved Tiff's life after she accidentally fell into a canyon. Tiff appears to be older than Tuff, and also has the power to call upon Kabu to release the Warp Star, when needed. While Tiff, in Tuff's words, "thinks too much" and is always suspicious of the king, Tuff is more easygoing.

FOLOLO and FALALA
Small, blue and pink flying friends of Tiff and Tuff. Brother and sister, FoLolo and FaLala were once a single person called Fofa. However, a monster from NightMare Enterprises called Slice 'n' Splice split him in half with a special moon rod, dividing Fofa into his male and female sides. The sun rod that could reunite the two sides was destroyed after Kirby defeated Slice 'n' Splice, so FoLolo and FaLala are brother and sister forever, but not upset at all about it. Also known as Lololo and Lalala in some Kirby games, and as Lolo and Lala in Adventures of Lolo.

META KNIGHT
Thousands of years ago, an evil being known as eNeMeE created NightMare Enterprises, which made monsters to be sent throughout the universe to cause mayhem and destruction. Fortunately, there were a group of fighters who opposed eNeMeE and his monsters. These rogues were called Star Warriors. A giant war was fought, and as one of the survivors, Meta Knight managed to escape, hoping that in the future, new Star Warriors would emerge to fight against eNeMeE (In this case, Kirby). For this reason, he traveled to Popstar, because King Dedede loves monsters, and the starship of a Star Warrior is set to travel to planets where monsters are detected. Although he serves for Dedede, he still considers himself against the king's monsters, and revealed some startling information about Kirby's abilities to Tiff and Tuff.

Other Characters include:

  • Sword Knight and Blade Knight, Meta Knight's armored compadres
  • Rick, a hamster who sounds Australian
  • Coo, an owl
  • Kine, a fish (the last three characters are all from Kirby's Dream Land 2)
  • The NME Sales Guy, who processes all of Dedede's monster orders from the internet
  • Kabu, A giant tiki head that bears vast knowledge and holds the Warp Star within
  • Waddle Dee, Dedede's many silent guards, led by a talking Waddle Doo
