The oldest inn in Lancashire
The Scotch Piper was built in the 1500s (presumable between 1533 and 1566) as part of the Lydiate Hall Estate. It probably became a pub during the 1600s. It was originally called The Royal Oak, then the Bag Pipes and then the Old Lolly before finally being renamed the Scotch Piper.
The building was originally built around an oak tree, parts of which are still visible.

Oh, yeah, it's on the A567, (9 miles from Liverpool and 11 miles from Southport). If you're in the area and want to get drunk somewhere really old, give it a try.
