Broad Arrow,
the mark cut or stamped on all English government property and stores. It was the cognizance of Henry, Earl of Romney, Master-General of the Ordnance, 1693-1702, and was at first placed only on military stores. It also the mark used in the British Ordnance Survey to denote points from which measurements have been made.
