Unfortunately, this idea is one that often occurs during Disney cartoons. This is probably another reason why anime hasn't caught on big in the U.S., as it has elsewhere.

Did you see Ashitaka or Lady Eboshi croon about how they want to find the deer god in Mononoke Hime?

Did you see Kaneda burst into song after his girlfriend got raped in Akira?

I think not.

One day, hopefully soon, Disney will realize how they ruined an entire genre of film for an entire country of people. One day, Christina Aguilera-induced melodies and characters with more curves than Pamela Anderson will be replaced with quality dialogue and an even higher quality of animation. One day, they will realize the mistake they made.
