Danny Michael DeVito was born on November 17, 1944 in Neptune, New Jersey. Danny's first job was at his sister's beauty parlor. Here, he worked under the name of Mr. Danny and cut hair and did other odd jobs for his sister. After a short while, he knew that he couldn't stay in the parlor forever. Danny DeVito enrolled into the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. His studies did not focus on acting, which you probably know him from. He wanted to be a professional make-up artist. While acting was not in his plans, Danny did do some acting there. He could have possibly been pushed by his friend and one-time roommate, Michael Douglas.

Danny worked his way up from bit parts in such films as Dreams of Glass. However, he was not happy with the small roles he received, and instead turned his focus from acting on the movie screen to acting on the stage. It would be on the stage that he would meet his future wife, Rhea Perlman.

Danny returned to the big screen in 1972. His big break would not come until 1975. In 1975 he reprised a role he performed on the stage, the role of Martini in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. This role led to the role that Danny would probably be most well known for, Louie, the obnoxious dispatcher on Taxi. It's rumored that Danny DeVito got the part when he walked into the audition, with script in hand, and exclaimed "Who wrote this sh*t?"

In the 1980's DeVito rocked on a series of comedies such as Romancing The Stone, Ruthless People, Throw Momma From the Train and co-starring with Arnold Schwartzenegger in Twins. Danny also appeared on The Simpsons twice, as Herbert Powell. Danny DeVito will always be remembered by his excellent portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot, better known as Batman nemesis The Penguin, in the movie Batman Returns.

In the 1980's, Danny branched out. He started to dabble in producing and directing. His production credits range from Quentin Tarentino's Pulp Fiction to Erin Brockavich to the marijuana loving How High, featuring rappers Redman and Method Man.

In 1982, Danny married long time girlfriend Rhea Perlman. The couple had been living together since the 70's. They co-own Jersey Productions and have three children, Lucy, Grace and Jacob. Currently, Danny is a vegetarian. He used to be a chain-smoker but managed to kick that vile addiction before The War of the Roses. In that film, he smoked cigarettes filled with chopped, dry lettuce.

Danny DeVito is 5 feet tall.
