There are
two sides to every coin: black/white, happy/sad, love/hate, good/evil. You can't have one without the other. They can not be separated. As much as we may want to only
love, there is
hate buried deep within. The love
controls the feelings of hate we may have. We could not love if we could not hate.
Two sides of the same coin.
Dr. Jekyll has tampered with nature by trying to cleave the coin, separate good from evil. Mr. Hyde is all that is evil in Dr. Jekyll but without the controls of Dr. Jekyll's inherent goodness.
Dr. Jekyll is under the belief that he can take away the evil and destroy it. He does not want to accept that any part of the evil that is Mr. Hyde is a part of him. In this scene Jekyll hears Hyde's voice and sees Hyde in the mirror. He has entered his own personal hell as he confronts the demon inside of him and tries to regain control.
