A
hat-shaped
copper helmet worn by the lower classes of
Japanese retainers. Like the "tin hat" of the late war it was often used as a
cooking pot.
There is said to have been a
special kind worn in the
eastern provinces which had a
loose piece on the
crown that revolved when
struck by a
weapon or
missile.
