This, the second of the D'Artagnan Romances, takes place in the mid-1600's, and deals with personal ambitions, a near French civil war with the Fronde (a political party of sorts) and the English Civil War, as our heores try to save the young French king, Louis XIV, and the English king, Charles I.

A sequel almost better than the original, The Three Musketeers. We learn more about the inner workings of the musketeers and their servents, encounter old and new villians, and meet a few sons and daughters of characters from the first book. Lots of surprises and twists.

Alexandre Dumas is still my favorite author.
