Poison sumac (toxicodendron vernix) is a shrub which exudes a toxin called urushiol that causes severe skin rash and irritation when touched. The toxin is exuded by all parts of the plant.

Poison sumac grows exclusively in bogs and swamps in the eastern part of North America. It is far more toxic to human skin than either of its more famous relatives, poison ivy and poison oak.
