Peter Høeg is a Danish author most known for the book
Smilla's Sense of Snow. According to one of his book jackets,
"..born in 1957 in Denmark, he pursued various interests-he was a professional dancer, an actor, a sailor, a fencer, and a mountaineer- before turning seriously to writing."
He has been compared to
Joseph Conrad, and at times the description seems apt. In fact he parodied
Conrad in a short story "
Journey Into A Dark Heart", about Europeans exploring and totally missing the essence of Africa. His greatest work (in my opinion) has to be his novel,
Borderliners; it's part suspense story, part philosophical inquiry into the nature of time and the humanity of mathematics.
