Back to Serial Experiments Lain

Electromagnetic waves that exist in the Earth-ionosphere cavity. This cavity is found at the edge of the Earth and the inner edge of the ionosphere. These waves are more active during times of increased natural electrical phenomena such as intense lightning storms. The resonance has a frequency of aprox. 7.8 Hz. It is thought to begenerated by the rotation of the inner core inside the Earth. Some scientists believe that life evolved surrounded by this electromagnetic environment, protecting it in it's infancy. Some have even gone as far to say that man-made EMF polution is masking this radiation, causing us to feel more stressed and "out of balance". Some devices have been created that generate pulses at the 7.8 Hz of the Schumann Resonance, and laboratory research has found that these devices supposedly protect living things from harmful man-made radiation. Very weird, and kinda neat. Almost cool enough for me to doubt the validity of these devices. :P

Now let's dive into some fictional connections!...

In Serial Experiments: Lain, Masami Eiri (deus) attempts to allow humanity to communicate directly over the Wired via this resonance. He plants technology into Protocol 7, a next-generation communication protocol (like our own next-gen protocol: IP6).
