In typography a relative measure of the distance between the baseline and midline of a typeface. That is to say the height of lowercase letters with no ascenders or descenders (for instance: a, c, e, and of course x.) Some typefaces may have a varying height among lowercase letterforms, in which case x-height is a measure of the height of, guess what, the lowercase x.
