In this bright sunlight we say farewell
Your family
in black shoes stand close together
but I seek shade
leaning against a tree, considering the branches
shafts of light through dark leaves
I hear
words of reassurance
but from this distance they are
obscured, vague
later we will eat
tasteless food and more wine than we need
and hope to forget this day
and this
contradictory blue sky
