What you become once your family
s that you
are a computer-literate
person. Once this happens, you will be constantly pester
ed and hound
ed for, essentially, unpaid computer support
for them, their spouse
s, their children
, their neighbor
s, their bosses
, and total random stranger
s. At all costs, don't let this happen to you.
I have found that remaining totally ignorant of the workings of Windows has helped me avoid this fate, because I can always say "Oh, that's a Windows problem, I don't have any idea about that, you should install <some flavor of UNIX> instead." The down side is that, because I don't tell them any better, the rest of my family uses Windows 98 and Internet Explorer and uses companies like Earthlink as their ISP.
