To act under color of law means to misuse the power or authority of a government official. This is easiest to do if you actually are a government official; however, if you are not, you can do it by pretending to be one.

Police are often guilty of acting under color of law, as in cases of police brutality or harassment. IRS auditors do it too.

A libertarian government would stop these abuses.
