Japanese expression / kotowaza: 灯台暗し (tōdai moto kurashi)
Literal Translation: Directly beneath the lighthouse is dark.
What it means: Some things gets overlooked because they are too close to you. Also used as a joke amongst Japanese students to mean students sitting in front of the classroom, hidden by the teacher's lectern, gets away with sleeping in class or cheating on tests more easily.
