A time loop is a common science fiction and fantasy trope. It involves a person or persons travelling back in time to relive the same chronological period at least twice, and often many more times. This is usually done primarily to juggle events and follow the path that the protagonist prefers, resulting in a better world at the end of the story. There is often a minor or major theme of gaining, and keeping, skills through each loop, allowing a character to hone skills, often to superhuman levels. Even if skills are not gained in any significant amount, it is nearly always the case that knowledge of possible futures are carried back to the start of the time loop. If the narrator and the reader/viewer are the only ones who see the different paths through time, that would generally not be considered a time loop.
