Rupa, Sanatana, Raghunatha dasa, Gopala Bhatta,
Raghunatha Bhatta, and Jiva Gosvamis, immediate followers of Lord Caitanya
Mahaprabhu who were empowered by Him to establish the preaching of His movement
all over the world. Chaitanyite Vaishnavas consider them, along with two other Gosvamis, to be incarnations
of the manjaris, Radha's most intimate cowherd-girl companions in Vraja
[Vrindavana], thus:
Rupa Gosvami = Rupa Manjari
Sanatana Gosvami = Rati or Labanga Manjari
Raghunatha dasa Gosvami = Rasa or Rathi Manjari
Gopala Bhatta Gosvami = Guna or Ananga Manjari
Raghunatha Bhatta Gosvami = Raga Manjari
Jiva Gosvami = Vilas Manjari
Lokanatha Gosvami = Manjulali Manjari
Krishnadasa Kaviraja = Kasturi Manjari
One can envisage this like a lotus flower... in the center there is Sri Sri
Radha-
Krishna (the
Pañca-tattva being an incarnation of them), then surrounding them are the the
manjaris (being reincarnated as the eight
Gosvamis of
Vrindavana), and then, beyond them the eight principal
gopis: Lalita, Indulekha, Chitra, Champakalata, Tungavidya, Rangadevi, Vishakha, and Sudevi.
