A number of years ago I was taking a break from work, and taking advantage of the fact that I had my own exit from the office, I was basking in the sun reading a book...

The book in question was a very interesting thesis in the subject of propaganda, which stated that for the purpose of dis information you could divide people into two groups. The educated elite and the bewildered herd. I would like to believe that I belong to the former group because I question what I am told and what I read, and if necessary I will go out and research the facts.

So I was thinking to myself, the bewildered herd can't be that bad surely? They must have the ability to question the media when presented with unbalanced facts?

It was at this point that one of my work mates came out and with great show asked me the question that has haunted me to this day, she asked me not what I was reading but why was I reading. Thinking I had misheard her I explained the subject of the book only to have the question repeated, she could not conceive of reading for pleasure.
