The UK indie band were, I believe, "The Charlatans U.K." for a while, because in 1960s San Francisco (Haight-Ashbury) there had been a band, out of the same scene as the Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead, called the Charlatans. They were not nearly as successful as their psychedelic friends, but were moderately well-known for their "acid-rock-western" sound and look.
