Something that induces a state of deep sorrow, catharsis, or otherwise crying. Thus, the actor of the action 'jerks' tears from the eyes of the person recieving the action. Usually said of a movie, book, or other means of telling a story. For example :

"That movie was a real tear jerker; I was practically bawling when I left the theatre."
