The profession of designing and analyzing structures, such as buildings, bridges, towers and roads. Structural engineers design and specify elements of a structure that resist forces such as gravity, earthquake acceleration, wind, snow and explosion. Structural engineers design a structure's "skeleton." They also choose materials and design connections to be used and built by contractors. Structural engineering is the practice of assuring that structures remain standing.
