A slang term used in Britain for a low-ranking member of the Armed Forces (usually the Army) who is an ordinary foot soldier with no additional training or experience.

Outside of the Army, the term often has negative connotations, implying unruly behaviour or poor social grace. Members of the Army themselves, however, will often happily use the term with pride.
