Sodium citrate is a white substance of odourless crystals, granules or powder. It is considered soluble in water, that is, more than 100 grams of material will dissolve in one liter of water. The chemical formula for sodium citrate is C6H5Na3O7. That's six atoms of carbon, five atoms of hydrogen, 3 atoms of sodium, and seven atoms of oxygen. This substance may cause irritation in human eyes, on human skin, or if inhaled. It is flammable.
Sodium citrate is found dissolved in many drinks, such as Sprite. It is not hazardous to drink.
It is used as an anticoagulant.
