Automotive slang for an automatic transmission. Refers to the somewhat "slushy" shifting and acceleration characteristics traditionally associated with such transmissions, as opposed to the almighty manual transmission. Favored by some 85% of American car buyers (as opposed to Europeans, 70% of whom drive manual-shift cars.)
