A drive (cdrom or dvd) which instead of loading with a tray, has a slot in the front of it where you push the disc in. This is a good design, until the loading motor breaks and you have to push the discs in with another cd. This has happened to the Sony CD player in my family's car 3 times, though my Pioneer DVD drive in my computer works fine.
