sftp is a replacement for the commonly-used FTP protocol. Sftp uses an encrypted SSH tunnel to serve files to clients having a user account on the server (anonymous access is not supported) as compared to the standard FTP protocol using clear-text transmissions. This gives greater security through the enhanced authorization and encryption of the data being sent and received. Sftp supports every command available in RFC-compliant FTP daemons.
