grand serjeanty. Hist. Serjeanty requiring the tenant to personally perform a service to the king, as by carrying the king's banner or sword or officiating at the king's coronation.
petit serjeanty. Serjeanty that either did not have to be performed personally by the tenant or was not personal in nature, such as an annual payment of rent by a bow, sword, arrow, or other war implement.
