A rotorcraft is an aeroplane that gets its lift from a rotating wing above it.

Helicopters have a powered rotating wing which throws air downwards, and usually a powered tail rotor to stop it spinning

Gyrocopters are small aircraft in which the wing spins freely around as the craft gets pushed through the air by a push propellor behind.
