Combination of gears located in the differential housing of an automobile. The "ring" gear is a flat round gear that is shaped like a ring...the pinion gear meets the ring gear at a 90 degree angle. These gears transfer torque applied from the driveshaft to the axle(s), which in turn transfer torque to the wheels.
