Basically - Networking without thecables. A radio access point sits on your LAN and mobile devices have an antenna and can wander. This is THE technology of today. Laptops with GSM, spread spectrum LAN and WAN connections to the internet. 802.11 has given us 1 or 2Mbit/sec communication using frequency-hopping, and we now have 802.11b which gives us 11Mbit/sec. Our current rf technology transmits on 2.4 GHz, but soon we are moving up to 25GHz, which will give us a speed of 50Mbit/sec and up.

In the UK we are limited to 100mW by the DTI so our range is limited, but in the USA the kit transmits at 1W.

Top suppliers of this kit are Symbol, Cisco and Lucent
