A radar reflector is a small device fitted to small ships etc. that helps the craft to show up on radar scans. There are different types of radar reflector: some are just funny-shaped pieces of metal, whereas others are similar in design to bike reflectors. Yet others act as transponders and amplify the returning signal.

In these days where most commercial vessels, and even some private boats, are fitted with radar to allow them to see through fog and storms, it is very sensible practice to have a radar reflector on your ship, so it can be seen when visibility is low.
