quarter box

The box at a comic shop were all the forgotten titles of yore are laid to rest. It's called the quarter box because, well, each comic costs a quarter. Some shops will even give you five for a dollar! What a deal! It's stuck under the tables with all the alphabetized titles or worse, stuck in some horrible back room. So many broken dreams, so many horrible memories for way to many writers, inkers, and publishers. Sure it's yellowed and smells bad, but if you've got time to kill and a few bucks in your pocket there are some good things to do with the quarter box.
  1. Buried Treasure: The name of the game is Seek and You Shall Find. There's gold in them there boxes I tell ya! Take the time to look through all the boxes and you're bound to find a gem. Personally, I've found such greats as Evan Dorkin's Geek and old copies of Bone I was missing. You're bound to find something you'll like.
  2. Bathroom Reading: Ran out of stuff to read? Don't feel like ruining those new trade paperbacks? Check the quarter box. Face it, nobody is going to care if you wipe your butt with a copy of Atari Force.
  3. Cheese Factor: Oh, there is so much cheese in the quarter box. Now's your chance to giggle at it. Sectaurs, Team America, and Steeltown Rockers are all classics, and it's about time they're recognized as such.
  4. Valiant Hunt: A game in which you try to be the first person to find a Valiant comic. (Trust me, it won't take long.) The twist is that you immediatly have to make a scathing comment about the comic. (Again, not that hard.) Play continues until one person has out geeked the others.
  5. Coffee Table Reading: That Robert Crumb book still a little out of your reach? Then go for quantity! Hell, for ten bucks you can probably make a coffee table.
Now get out there and make a comic store owner's day!
