  1. rounding error -- often used in discussion of compression

  2. fallacy:

    when you forget that the measurement is not the object.

    a reason computers are bad is that they like numbers, and people will shoehorn things into numbers, so that they can get help from the computer. Problem is, they're changing the question.

    Example from in the absense of the sacred: mouse population as a metric of ecosystem health.
