Poubelle is the french word for garbage can or dust bin. The funny thing about this word is that it comes from the name of the "Préfet de la Seine", Eugène-René Poubelle, who ordered on January 7, 1884 that the garbage must be put in a special can instead of thrown in the streets of Paris.
