Pinata (pronounced pin-yah-tah) is a decorated container filled with candy.

A pinata is usually used in Christmas and birthday celebrations in Latin America, and in many Latin American communities. Generally, a person is blindfolded, given a stick, and allowed to take 1 to 3 wacks at it. When the pinata is broken, candy spills out.

I'm sure there's several methods of making a pinatas, but the most obvious is paper mache.
