phorum is a cool forum tool designed as freeware and open source source by the gang over at phorum.org -- the sw is based on PHP3 and runs on Linux using either postgres/PostgreSQL or MySQL -- I use it on davidmichael.com, loins.com, coelaboration.com and anywhere else I possible can!
I believe that Brian Moon coded it, but he works with Neil Burrows.
