Frequently associated with Holden Caulfield, central character in J.D Salinger's The Catcher In The Rye.

The book is famous for its use of language, and Holden peppers his sentences with descriptions of people as being phony, a sonuvabitch or bastard.

I would love to quote some brilliant instances of him calling people "phonies", but Salinger is famous for his reclusive and guarded nature. Hence his publishers are particularly sensitive to copyright issues, as can be seen by the Holden Server, which provided random quotes until Salinger requested that it be stopped.

So go read the book, if you haven't already.
