A type of marker or pen that uses an ink which is intended leave permanent marks on surfaces such as paper, wood, or plastic. Most permanent markers also leave long lasting impressions on human skin. Permanent markers are often used to indicate ownership of an item: for instance, I write Carlyle on all of my books using a permanent marker.
