Paracrine cell growth factors are important in their cell-cell interactions which are associated with growth outside of their own cellular membranes. A form of signalling in which the target cell is close to the signal releasing cell. Neurotransmitters and neuro-hormones are usually considered to fall into this category of cytokines and witnessed through endocrinology.

The secretion of a hormone or growth factor from anything other than an endocrine gland. This includes secretions from an autocrine system and cytocrine glands.
