As attested by Ben Jonson in Volpone, "panther's breath" is a perfume, relating to the Medieval notion that the cat attracts and/or catches his prey by cultivating a curiously attractive scent and breathing on them: "all beasts (in Greek pan thera) love the Panther, save the Dragon."
We catch up on this, some centuries later, "Panther Sweat" (perhaps related to Pocari Sweat?) is a particularly strong drink.
Which leads to the Prohibition, and post-Prohibition, meme of "Panther Piss", with various cartoonlike, and even "artistic" depictions thereof.
